Martin Scorsese presenta magistralmente algo que es mitad una grabación del último concierto del legendario grupo de rock The Band y mitad una visión documental de las personalidades de sus integrantes, que conceden entretenidas e ingeniosas entrevistas ante la cámara. Y habrá varios invitados musicales estelares. Tengo que decir que ver la versión restaurada en el espacio de un cine bien sonorizado fue una experiencia realmente envolvente, y casi me sentí partícipe de aquel concierto legendario. La excelente música se complementa con imaginativas tomas de cámara de la élite cinematográfica de la década de 1970 (Michael Chapman, David Myers, László Kovács, Vilmos Zsigmond...). Para mí, fue literalmente una proyección cinematográfica totalmente vivida y un ejemplo perfecto de cómo un espectador puede sentirse completamente atraído por una obra. [KVIFF 2022]

Even though I don't know these songs, even though I have heard of The Band for the first time, the documentary/concert recording at least partially conveys the great atmosphere to the viewer, just as the band's atmosphere at the time of their breakup is also conveyed. In terms of context, the viewer learns enough to understand the significance of the band, as well as the necessity of their break-up. Martin Scorsese has shown himself to be a great observer and has the ability to capture significant moments, both externally and internally. Great footage of The Band's farewell concert that is "just" a top-notch capture of the musical experience rather than a documentary in the true sense of the word. Scorsese's off-stage interviews don't go into any extra depth, you learn a few moderately funny facts and anecdotes from the 60s that peaceably fill in the moments between musical performances. Anyway, seeing it on the big screen in Karlovy Vary was a treat. [80%]
