Durante la II Guerra Mundial, muchos niños son evacuados de las ciudades y enviados a casas en la periferia para que se hagan cargo de ellos. Cuando uno de estos niños llega a casa de Alice (Gemma Arterton) esta decide en un principio deshacerse de él. Sin embargo, cuando el joven abre su corazón, permitiéndole desbloquear los secretos de su pasado, Alice comienza a darse cuenta de que a veces dejar volar la imaginación puede ser muy liberador.
