Para escapar del horror de la persecución nazi, Otto Frank (Joseph Schildkraut) esconde a su mujer (Gusti Huber) y a sus dos hijas, Ana (Millie Perkins) y Margot (Diana Baker), en un ático abandonado de Amsterdam durante dos años. Con ellos también se esconden el Sr. y la Sra. Van Daan y un dentista el Sr. Dussel. En su diario, Ana documentó las adversidades de ñas personas que la rodeaban mientras trataban de llevar una vida normal confiadas en un ático diminuto bajo la constante amenaza de ser descubiertos por la Gestapo. The theme and the whole story surrounding Anne Frank's diary are so powerful that the creators would have to be truly incompetent to mess it up. They didn't, and the film is a testament to the fact that Anne Frank's diary can work not only as a book itself but also in this dramatized form, beautifully showcasing the effort to live normally in an environment of claustrophobia and fear.
