Dog. Un viaje salvaje

A likeable family road-movie drama that follows a familiar template, but has nothing to offend. The kind of feel-good movie for a Sunday afternoon that will please the ladies because of Tatum, and also dog-lovers. The premise is a bit unconventional, Tatum is a Marine who, due to a brain injury, is no longer wanted in the Army, but is given the task of transporting a dog to her former master's funeral. The dog is very aggressive and taming it will be no fun, and that leads to some comical situations in the first half. It probably needed a stronger emotional pull on the gate, but still the good feeling of the film remains. 6/10. (04.04.2022)

Dog should have had drama in the genre column alongside comedy, because although it does have its share of humorous moments, it also deals with more serious themes (mental and physical trauma, family ties, the search for self) that are not overtly mainstream, even if it smacks of cliché and predictability. Both Briggs and Lulu struggle with their demons, and as it happens, it's always easier to fight together – you just have to come to that realization. Even though one of the main characters is a dog, they don’t push the emotions, as it’s usually the case in similar films, yet I got a bit carried away during the funeral scene and the sequence with Ethan Suplee. An average, but extremely likeable one-off about the seemingly unlikely friendship between man and dog. (08.03.2022)
