La cabeza sobre el agua

I almost feel like giving this pitch-black crime comedy five stars, as it felt very fresh to me. It is an original cynical contribution of Nordic cinema to the respective genre. It scores points mainly in terms of the screenplay and the unconventional cast, though the direction could have been more inventive, but that doesn't mean Nils Gaup's film is bad. It is definitely much better than the significantly more famous American cover version with its star-studded cast. It's just a pity that the Norwegian Head Above Water is a somewhat unknown film, even though I have seen it on TV a few times. It's a shame that film fans simply have to miss out on some films... Overall impression: 85%. A devilishly mixed cocktail of unbelievable coincidences and strong emotions. (14.11.2008)
