First impressions after the first episode. It is, as expected, an ambitious horror show from Spain by director Alex De La Iglesia, and it’s his best work since The Last Circus. From the beginning, the series sets a frantic pace, with a heap of WTF scenes (a child born from a cow), and captivates with its characters (a priest who is a boxer and an incredible bad-ass), visuals, setting, religiously soaked atmosphere, and a finale with a monster whose design is fantastic. There is also a bit of gore, and overall, it is very entertaining and occasionally sharp with black morbid humor. If the series can maintain this pace, it will be the TV event of the year.
