Año 1941. El soldado Prewitt (Montgomery Clift), que acaba de llegar a la base militar de Pearl Harbor en Hawai, es un antiguo boxeador retirado del ring. El capitán Holmes (Philip Ober), conocedor de sus habilidades como púgil, intenta que se una al equipo del ejército, pero Prewitt rechaza la propuesta. A partir de ese momento se ve sometido a toda clase de castigos y humillaciones tanto por parte de sus superiores como de sus compañeros. Sólo cuenta con la amistad y el apoyo del soldado Angelo Maggio (Frank Sinatra). Mientras tanto, el sargento Milton Warden (Burt Lancaster) y Karen (Deborah Kerr), la mujer de Holmes, viven una historia de amor adúltera. A great classic that fully deserves the label. A strong story, excellent actors and the constant threat of war hanging in the air, which finally strikes and shakes everything up. The film would have greatly benefited from a more lavish widescreen format.

Currently, it is no longer a film that works as well as it did sixty years ago. It is a response to Pearl Harbor, but also to the problems that existed and still exist in the army. Montgomery Clift once again shows what a great actor he was and how well he was watched in every role. Men, in general, take the lead in this film, both in terms of acting and not just quantitatively.
