Actor Pavel Šnajdr eagerly accepts an opportunity to direct his first film. He’s not bothered that he has to leave Prague and head for Olomouc in order to do this. Quite the reverse. Things aren’t going very well in his marriage and in Olomouc he gets to live with his eccentric grandma, who shares his distinctive sense of humour and mystification and is thus the ideal partner for him in a piece of improvised performance. However, the preparations for the premiere don’t go exactly according to plan. Grandma doesn’t like being bossed around on stage and the director of the cultural centre has a completely different artistic vision from that of Šnajdr. (Karlovy Vary International Film Festival)

Big Opening es la película más divertida de Miroslav Krobot hasta la fecha, pero eso no dice mucho y el listón está muy bajo. Sigue siendo un espectáculo medio muerto sobre gente que se comporta de forma extraña y cuyos destinos no te importarán, y cuando realmente uno piensa sobre la película, el final ni siquiera tiene sentido en las realidades de un mundo que funcione (o habría tenido consecuencias fatales adicionales para los personajes principales). Y las interpretaciones completamente teatrales no contribuyen en absoluto a la calidad cinematográfica de la película, y Pavel Šimčík es para mí un motor realmente poco interesante de la película después de sus payasadas en los anuncios. Además, es un bello ejemplo de lo anticuado del cine checo contemporáneo, porque reírse del síndrome de Tourette dejó de ser soportable hace unos quince años. [KVIFF 2022]
