En 1943, en plena II Guerra Mundial, un comando alemán formado por 16 paracaidistas planea secuestrar al primer ministro británico Winston Churchill, que tiene previsto descansar unos días en un diminuto pueblo en Nortflk. El Coronel Radl ha encargado la misión al Coronel Steiner, cuya sentencia de muerte por oposición al genocidio ha sido suspendida, y a un irlandés, Liam Davlin. Los paracaidistas alemanes aterrizan en tierras inglesas y se dirigen hacia el pueblo disfrazados con uniformes polacos. Todo transcurre como tenían planeado.
