Algunas personas que frecuentan el estanco de Auggie Wren (Harvey Keitel) le confían sus problemas. La rocambolesca historia de cómo consiguió su cámara fotográfica y de por qué se decidió a elaborar su singular colección de fotografías le dará por fin un argumento a Paul Benjamin (William Hurt), un prestigioso novelista que atravies una crisis. Por su parte, Paul ayudará a Rashid (Harold Perrineaud Jr.), un adolescente negro bastante desorientado que busca a su padre (Whitaker). (Buena Vista International Spain)

Película indie chill-out con interiores inusualmente demasiado iluminados y algunas historias de vida agradables (y algunas extrañas). Me complació mucho la dimensión filosófica del proyecto fotográfico de Keitel y la vida de William Hurt. Pero la interacción entre el joven afroamericano y su padre Whitaker me pareció extraña. Y el personaje neurótico de Whitaker es casi repulsivo.

A cute mosaic connecting up stories, either already told or those that take place right in front of us. Each is cloaked in smoke, but still they are heartwarming and you get to like them. It’s a joy to watch the great acting performances and clever outcomes in a movie that makes you think and reflects the period as exactly as Auggie’s camera captures time. The last, Christmas story warms the cockles of your heart. I must go visit grandma at the weekend. If you can't share your secrets with your friends then what kind of friend are you?

I love conversational films, especially when they are well-made and have something to say. This is exactly the case with the film "Smoke". The characters are wonderfully written and, most importantly, brilliantly portrayed. They stand out not because they lead such interesting lives, but simply because they know how to present their own lives well. Harvey Keitel is unbelievable when he narrates the final story. The portrayal of this memory during the closing credits is almost unnecessary because his storytelling is perfect.
