Sinopsis(1)
The film is set in 1923 in a cheap Tokyo boarding house. The landlord, Goda, roams through the attic, observing the weird lives of his tenants through holes in the ceiling. One day he sees a prostitute murder one of her clients and decides that at last he has found his soul mate... Based on stories by the Japanese master of horror, Edogawa Rampo. Un drama ligeramente erótico sobre un voyeur que observa la vida personal de otros inquilinos desde el ático de un edificio de apartamentos y que decide tomar medidas drásticas tras enamorarse de una dama adinerada. Hay que decir que The Watcher in the Attic se mueve a un ritmo muy lento y no ofrece ni de lejos tanta diversión como puede parecer a primera vista. Aun así, es una película que se adentra en los deseos secretos del alma humana y esboza con elocuencia cómo era la sociedad en el Japón de los años veinte. [FOD 2020]

The Watcher in the Attic is a film that for a while immerses you in the secrets of lust and activities that usually happen behind closed doors and you don't want anyone to know about. You become a voyeur yourself, but the connection between the viewer and the characters is not that strong, which is probably the main stumbling block here. Yet for a while, you can become voyeurs yourself in this psychologically interesting game.
