Wheelsy es un pueblo soñoliento de Estados Unidos, pintoresco y tranquilo. Sus simpáticos habitantes no meten las narices donde no les llaman. Pero por debajo de este bonito barniz se esconde algo sin nombre, malévolo, y ese algo crece. Nadie parece darse cuenta de que cada vez hay más avisos de animales de compañía perdidos ni que Grant Grant (Michael Rooker), uno de los ciudadanos más prósperos del pueblo, empieza a comportarse de un modo muy raro. Pero cuando el ganado aparece horriblemente mutilado y una joven desaparece, el sheriff Bill Pardy (Nathan Fillion) y sus hombres, con la ayuda de la esposa de Grant, Starla (Elizabeth Banks), descubren la existencia de una fuerza oscura que asedia el pueblo... It's like Shaun of the Dead, but a little less imaginative and with American pitchforks instead of English layabouts. In short, a very good spectacle that shows its love of horror films in which blood and other (not always human) fluids spurt in all directions from start to finish. James Gunn balanced the humor and suspense perfectly, and I loved how the special effects combined computer animation and classic masks and puppets.

It's got the divine Michael Rooker as a tragic badass, it's got a phenomenal mayor in Gregg Henry, it's got impressive references to other films (The Toxic Avenger on TV), and it just certainly doesn't have the drive that Troma veteran James Gunn could easily aspire to. For the entire ninety-one minutes, I just watched the hints of where this whole charade could have gone if the director had really pushed hard. I want a sequel where it doesn't just stop at assaulting little girls, calling shitty Republicans names, and slimy slugs at every turn.
