Abby Richter (Katherine Heigl) es una ambiciosa productora de un programa matinal de televisión, "A.M. Sacramento", que se vanagloria de encontrar a cada problema una solución inmediata, para cualquier problema excepto para su soltería. Cuando llega la hora de salir con hombres, la siempre correcta Abby cuenta con un impecable historial de fracasos. Cuando su programa sufre una caída de audiencia, Abby se ve obligada a hacer equipo con una nueva incorporación, Mike Chadway (Gerard Butler), un hombre que no puede sacarla más de quicio. Éste pretende revelar el secreto de lo que realmente les gusta a los hombres. Su estilo escandalosamente subido de tono, alegremente chovinista y vulgar, fastidia a Abby hasta decir basta. La situación empeora aún más, cuando se convierte de un día para otro en un éxito de audiencia, asegurándose la continuación de su puesto dentro de la cadena. Un día Abby conoce a Colin, su vecino, que además resulta ser médico y está soltero. Representa todo lo que Mike Chadway no es: afable, educado y nada peleón. Por lo que esta vez Abby no quiere estropearlo. Odia admitirlo, pero necesita la opinión de Mike sobre la mente masculina para dar los pasos correctos. Y es cuando Mike entrena a Abby y ésta pone en práctica si provocativa teoría de seducción, cuando descubren una gran ironía. I felt like I was on a roller coaster. Excellent and funny scenes alternate with truly weird and kitsch moments. Even so, I have mainly positive impressions from watching The Ugly Truth. Someone who bears great responsibility for that is Gerard Butler who led the movie to a satisfying conclusion, despite his strange, but predictable character development. On closer consideration, I was forced to reduce the stars to just 2.

An excellent romantic comedy with a great central duo. Gerard Butler is properly cheeky and his sexual innuendos to women carry the whole film. Katherine Heigl is very cute and properly sassy. Great dirty fun with a novel idea... 80%

Fans of the romance genre might enjoy this affair because it moves precisely within the boundaries that they are accustomed to, and it is additionally seasoned with humor, although the kind that we have seen and heard many times before. Katherine Heigl, in her professional position, possesses an excessive amount of social naivety, and Gerard Butler is slightly cheeky and nonconformist, but only enough so that the film does not risk any category of inaccessibility and, God forbid, does not deviate from the mainstream. Overall impression: 40%.

Katherine shines and Gerard enjoys every juicy line, but the whole studio plot, stupid supporting characters, and actually even the spicy commentary on truth felt like a betrayal compared to what I expected from the trailers, and I had to do my best not to write off the movie at that time. The paradox is that when it slows down, innuendos disappear and romance reaches top speed, I completely melted and thanks to the actors' dramatic talent, I thoroughly enjoyed the last half hour. However, due to higher expectations and striking unevenness of individual scenes, disappointment prevails.

If you are aware of what you are getting into before you buy your ticket, you won’t be disappointed. You have to know that it’s going to follow the old genre rules from the trailer and the only crucial question of the evening is whether the chemistry of the central couple will work. In this case, I give it both thumbs up because Butler is enjoying his macho character as much as Katherine Heigl is wonderfully natural and charming. The jokes were full of sexual remarks, and who cares about the shallow innuendos? I laughed with the whole movie theater and wished from the bottom of my heart for the two of them to succeed in the end. In a slight confusion of the senses, I give it a pure four "real" orgasms... ehm, stars. :)
