Un hombre (Lluís Homar) escribe, vive y ama en la oscuridad. Catorce años antes sufrió junto a Lena (Penélope Cruz), la mujer de su vida, un brutal accidente de coche en la isla de Lanzarote que lo dejó ciego. Este hombre usa dos nombres, Harry Caine, lúdico seudónimo bajo el que firma sus trabajos literarios, relatos y guiones y Mateo Blanco, su nombre de pila real, con el que vive y firma las películas que dirige. En la actualidad, Harry Caine vive gracias a los guiones que escribe y a la ayuda de su antigua y fiel directora de producción, Judit García (Blanca Portillo), y de Diego (Tamar Novas), el hijo de ésta, secretario, mecanógrafo y lazarillo. Desde que decidiera vivir y contar historias, Harry es un ciego activo y atractivo que ha desarrollado todos sus otros sentidos para disfrutar de la vida, a base de ironía y una amnesia autoinducida. All of you Rosemund Pilchers and Danielle Steels out there had better start getting worried, Almodóvar has broken into the romance fiction market. Boring romance fiction that you’ve seen a hundred times in telenovelas, feebly masked by calling it art. If it weren’t for Penelope, in a couple of years time, we’d be more likely to see this on morning housewives’ TV than on the CT2 Film Club.

An emotionally incoherent and typically Spanish film that is full of passion. Sometimes it's great, especially when Almodóvar steps out of the interior shots and smoothly transitions to the colorful, loaded exteriors, full of perfectly coordinated colors and half-uttered sentences. You think that the atmosphere is exceptional and it makes sense, but then another cut comes and a ton of dialogue, half of which is unnecessary. It repeats itself, as always. There's too much talking and not enough action. Penelope Cruz is the only one who doesn't even have to speak and she will still be great.

Zajímavý a poutavý příběh odehrávající se ve dvou časových rovinách, kterému jako vždy vévodí éterická Penélope. Děj se pozvolna rozjíždí, až graduje k určitému vyvrcholení, pak je jen trochu zbytečně nastavován. Kdyby Almodóvár Rozervaná objetí zkrátil o dvacet minut, dostala by svižnější nádech. Přesto jsem moc rád, že jsem je zhlédnul.
