En la futurista Metro City, una extraordinaria ciudad suspendida en el cielo, el brillante Doctor Tenma crea un robot, Astro Boy, a semejanza de su hijo, al que acaba de perder en un terrible accidente. El Doctor dota a su creación de los mejores valores y características del ser humano, a la vez que de increíbles superpoderes. Astro Boy recibirá un duro golpe cuando se entere de que no es un ser humano, sino un robot, y que es imposible que pueda reemplazar al hijo desaparecido del Doctor. Tras huir de la casa paterna, Astro Boy vivirá innumerables aventuras y deberá enfrentarse con el militarista Presidente Stone, que ansía el "Núcleo Azul", una inagotable fuente de energía alojada en el pecho del niño-robot. Tin-pot revolutionaries, well-chosen voice actors, music by John Ottman. All of this keeps the otherwise mediocre (and to me very unlikeable) Astro Boy from a two-star rating.

Unfortunately, I have not yet read any Japanese manga, but I somehow assume that it is presented differently or there are different stories here, because what is presented in the film is just a fairly ordinary film that occasionally tries to focus on emotions, but is not particularly convincing in this regard. Nice, but not exceptional.

Admittedly a rather touching story of a robot boy. Still, it lacked a bit more of the emotions and effects that would somehow reel me in. Today's cartoons are just somewhere else now, so I have to put Astro Boy somewhere in the average range.
