Frank Goode (Robert De Niro) se ha pasado la vida trabajando como un loco en una fábrica de material eléctrico para sacar adelante a su familia. Ahora que se ha jubilado, se da cuenta del poco tiempo que le ha dedicado a sus cuatro hijos. Y decide que ha llegado la hora de retomar la relación con ellos. La esposa de Frank, fallecida, era el punto de contacto con sus hijos. Pero ahora se siente responsable y quiere saber cómo les va y echarles una mano. Así que un fin de semana organiza una barbacoa e invita a toda la familia. Los preparativos van viento en popa hasta que, cosas de la vida moderna, todos tienen una buena excusa para no acudir a la reunión familiar. A pesar de la seria advertencia de su médico, Frank decide hacer frente a la situación. Hace las maletas y se lanza a recorrer Estados Unidos con la intención de hacer una visita sorpresa a cada uno de sus hijos y disfrutar de sus éxitos y su felicidad. Frank va a ver a su hijo David 'el artista' que vive en Nueva York, a su hija 'una alta ejecutiva de publicidad' en Chicago, a su hijo Robert, 'el director de orquesta' que vive en Denver y por último a Rosie, la benjamina que es 'bailarina en un espectáculo de Las Vegas'. Pero Frank no tarda en darse cuenta de que sus hijos no son tan felices ni tienen tanto éxito como su mujer le contaba. Frank regresa a casa después de un viaje que termina con la revelación de una tragedia familiar. Pero ahora sabe lo suficiente para decirle a su esposa que a pesar de todo, "todos están bien". Sentimental a lo americano, pero una sincera y amorosa caricia de valores familiares. Rockwell, Beckinsale y Barrymore disfrutan inmensamente de cada escena con su modelo actoral De Niro, que es probablemente el mayor valor de la película. *¡Por favor, tirar a la basura las cámaras digitales!

Podobně, jako tady už někdo uvedl, není to úplně na pět hvězdiček, ale když člověku umře blízký rodinný příslušník, tenhle film ho asi chytne za srdce. Robert de Niro se mi po dlouhé době moc a moc líbil a jeho děti nemohly být lépe vybrány - Sama Rockwella mám čím dál víc rád. Velmi milý, dosti smutný film, který přiměje k zamyšlení o rodinných hodnotách, ambicioznosti, upřímnosti...

The cast is good, but overall it's simply weak. The only one who has truly interesting role here is Robert De Niro, which is sometimes disrupted by unnecessary flashbacks that at least have an interesting concept. It's too straightforward, too simple, and ultimately too long because it's actually not about much.

I don't know the Italian original, but if it's better, I can't imagine how. Everybody's Fine is a film that must grab everyone's heart. Not just people who have parent/child issues. De Niro gives a great performance, his "old man" is exactly what you expect - smiling, suspicious, often disappointed and now and then dog-eyed, yet still searching for the meaning of everything that is happening around him. I give it four stars and a bit of a fifth because I was incredibly moved by the whole thing... And I don't just mean the "Why did you lie to me?" scene from the table talk. I would never have imagined what the sight of ordinary telephone wires can do to a person. Actually, sorry, I mean their PVC packaging. Are you looking for a drama that will make you laugh, think and move you, and after which you will leave the movie theater satisfied with a smile on your lips? Here you go.

A pleasant picture with an excellent cast. De Niro’s presence alone was enough to convince Sam Rockwell, Drew and Kate to agree to the role of his children. And all of them naturally want to shine in front the old man, so they do their very best, but daddy is still number one and outshines them all, pulling occasional trumps from his sleeve. The story is actually a kind of a retirement road movie about family values. I like this kind of movie and here they didn’t hesitate to push it to the limit and beyond.
