Visto durante Challenge Tour 2015: 30 días con el cine mundial. Película número 11 - Finlandia. Otra contribución del Tour para mí - gracias a algunas películas estoy ampliando mis horizontes, en este caso en particular, llenando vacíos en mi propio conocimiento sobre la guerra civil finlandesa. Esto realmente no lo aprendimos en la escuela secundaria en historia. Una película también puede servir para eso, gracias a Rozkaz pasaré los siguientes minutos buscando información sobre este triste capítulo de la historia finlandesa del siglo XX. La película en sí es literalmente "exquisita" en cuanto a su aspecto visual - se beneficia de escenarios hermosos, eso es obvio, pero la cámara es realmente impresionante. En cuanto a su contenido, la película es tan loca como todas las guerras que hayan tenido lugar en cualquier parte, incluyendo Finlandia. En la segunda mitad me sorprendió mucho, tal vez incluso impactado, pero en situaciones tensas las personas simplemente no se comportan de manera normal. Un gran punto a favor es la elección de los actores: la encantadora protagonista realmente me impactó teniendo en cuenta los horrores que tuvo que soportar, el actor principal era agradable a primera vista y sus acciones, salvo una, despertaron en mí una profunda simpatía, y el personaje del juez militar, psicológicamente complejo y a la vez misterioso, fue excelente en términos de actuación. Una experiencia artística muy intensa y me alegra haber podido ver esta película finlandesa, de las cuales no he visto muchas. Y es la segunda película en la que tuve la oportunidad de escuchar un fragmento de la Sinfonía No. 7 de Beethoven dentro de una semana. A los cineastas aparentemente les gusta su dramatismo. War is full of powerful stories, and of course, I prefer those that tell about the fates of ordinary people or individuals rather than about armies and big battles. Tears of April is exactly that, focusing on several characters, but honestly, I couldn't decide the whole time if it was any good or if it was all for effect. (21.08.2017)

The film features a local Finnish militia and a former hunter Harjula, who is a bit simple, but all the more good guy. When he witnesses a scene where the Finnish army rape and then mass murder a Soviet women guard, he cannot mentally cope with it. For the first fifteen minutes I was in a mood of hating all humanity, with the Finns being the most disgusting nation in the world to me. After some time, I eased a bit and accepted the fact that war is filthy and every nation committed some atrocities that it would prefer to forget. And as the Northerners are great self-critics, they serve it to the audience with bells on. Luckily Harjula is here and he saves one of the girls. She is pretty, does not speak, but she lived through some horrible things. That, however, doesn’t stop her from setting classic women tactics in motion. Simply a pleasure to watch. (27.06.2018)

After Unknown Soldier, Tears of April is the second film I've seen by Aku Louhimies and I have to admit that I'm starting to get a taste for it. His directorial style is clearly recognizable. While Unknown Soldier bored me with its long-windedness and lack of emotion, Tears of April didn't give me a moment's respite. The harsh scenes from the Finnish Civil War were very realistic. Right from the start, I formed a bond with both the captive and the soldier standing on the side of justice. Strangely enough, I was not indifferent to the mentally disturbed judge afterward. I would say his recitation of Goethe was one of the film's strongest moments. The psychology of the characters and their relationships with each other was also captured well. In sum, Tears of April is a raw war drama, charged with a captivating atmosphere that can strike an emotional chord in all of us. At least it really worked for me. (01.05.2020)
