Sinopsis(1)

A bitter cold comedy about how one could live in the 1970´s and yet did not let themselves get frozen. Adolescence is complicated, especially when it is 1968, foreign tanks run about outside, daddies of many various positions take turns at home. And mommy, despite her inner strength, does not manage to do everything by herself. How would it be possible to live through and survive the already severe 1970´s under such conditions? How one could retain their zest of life, feelings for love and yen for laughter? The bitter cold comedy Zemský ráj to na pohled by Irena Pavlásková is about these things, too. The main line of the movie is the story of Marta (Vilma Cibulková), her two adolescent daughters – Majda and Gábina (Dana Marková and Tereza Voříšková) – and their coming and leaving “daddies” (Jiří Dvořák, Miroslav Etzler, Jan Zadražil, Ondřej Vetchý). While some of the “daddies” try one by one to reverse the clock of Czech history if nothing else, Marta and her daughters resist the results and consequences arising from these attempts of theirs in connection with the communist regime. The world of the “big league politics” and large aims thus collides and blends with the everyday life reality as well as complements it. And the fact that funny situations occur in the meantime? Well, at that time, the ability to be ironic and sense of humor were an essential part of every survival pack that filled one with vitality, willingness and lust to live and not to fail in one´s own eyes. inglés The panoptical years of normalization, seen through the panoptical eye of Irena Pavlásková, discover an ideal symbiosis. This is another unexpectedly pleasant surprise for me. Czech cinema has its own image and it still has plenty to develop. This is the ideal situation - if it were to apply across the board, of course. An Earthy Paradise for the Eyes doesn't seem to spare the exaggerated visuals... and yet, this benefits the actors' creations. Eventually, even the Voříšková and Zadražil will get good at something. Which is a truly fascinating moment of insight. As well as the fact that this is not another odd variation on the pairing of Etzler and Cibulková, but that the latter again plays an excellent femme fatale and manages to get through the all-encompassing quadrangle. Marková has a great start and the meeting with Hartl was really joyful. And of course, Seidl is needed more in films in general. I am hoping for more and more significant offers for Irena because she is not only in bohemian scenes strengthening her art. This is how I ideally imagine the evolution from the woman-sow in Time of the Servants to the time of the swine. ()

inglés I can't help it, but these movies just don't entertain me anymore. It's nice that they are based on autobiographical memories, but why aren't the characters real then? The acting performances are alright, but nothing groundbreaking, and it's all ruined by the conviction that everything was terrible. Maybe not everything was, but people were swine, and we know that. There are too many similar movies made, and it's not a way to cope with the times. We can't even cope with the current ones. ()

inglés I can't understand why An Earthy Paradise for the Eyes is so seemingly reviled by the users here. Many life situations are presented with exaggeration and humor, but these are not synonyms for poor quality. Or am I wrong? I definitely have to praise the great cast. I enjoyed Ondřej Vetchý's performances the most because once again he managed to make the most out of the minimum. However, Vilma Cibulková did not get lost in the main role and elevated it with vigor and precisely dosed nobility, as only she can do. The filmmakers managed to capture the period atmosphere perfectly. I had a really good time watching the film. After all, no one is forcing us to take our recent history deadly seriously. Not to mention that there is certainly no shortage of dramatic moments. (75%) ()
