Harry Street (Gregory Peck) es un escritor que ha sido gravemente herido en un accidente de caza en África. Está postrado en su litera en el campamento establecido cerca de las laderas del monte Kilimanjaro. En sus ataques febriles recuerda su pasado y cómo perdió a la mujer que más amó (Ava Gardner) y que ahora está muerta. Se hace reproches de haber antepuesto su trabajo como escritor a su vida privada, y se considera un fracasado. Su mujer Helen (Susan Hayward) cuida de él mientras esperan la llegada de ayuda. Ella se muestra comprensiva y le manifiesta su amor. Poco a poco Harry se va dando cuenta que junto a su mujer podrá rehacer su vida. (Filmin)

A little classic Hollywood drama played out against the backdrop of this cheesy and almost indigestible film. Rising German star Hildegard Knef, appearing as Hildegarde Neff, played a small supporting role here as Countess Liz, who not only swims proficiently but also sculpts. This is actually how she enjoyed her American career. It was her second chance after turning down Selznick, who offered her a job under overly harsh conditions.

It almost seems like an interesting story. Writer Harry (Gregory Peck) is essentially on his deathbed beneath Kilimanjaro and decides to recount his story. However, the storytelling itself isn't particularly interesting, and after a while, you realize that the most captivating scenes are those with animals. That's not the best calling card, because this was supposed to be about the story.
