On the Avenue

On the Avenue is a "tuneful" (Variety) romantic musical that pits a New York socialite family against a Broadway producer. When Gary Blake's (Dick Powell) new show starring Mona Merrick (Alice Faye) premieres, it angers socialite Mimi Carraway (Madeleine Carroll). But Mimi's bitterness turns to affection when she falls for Gary. Meanwhile, Mona makes a play for Gary by sabotaging the production. A feud erupts and the gossip column are a-buzz until Mimi's Aunt Fritz (Cora Witherspoon) steps in to help make things right again.
