El reverendo Cotton Marcus llega al rancho del granjero Louis Sweetzer con la intención de ejercer su trabajo, un exorcismo rutinario a otro fanático religioso con problemas mentales. Sin embargo Sweetzer ha contactado al predicador como último recurso, seguro de que su hija adolescente Nell ha sido suplantada por un demonio que debe ser expulsado antes de que la posesión acabe en una tragedia terrorífica. Cotton y su equipo, acostumbrados a aprovecharse económicamente de los creyentes, se han prometido que ese será su último exorcismo, y deciden grabarlo en vídeo. Pero al llegar a la casa rural se dan cuenta de que nunca han estado preparados para el mal que les espera. Ahora ya es demasiado tarde para dar la vuelta, y deberán encontrar un modo de salvar a Nell y salvarse a sí mismos. (Aurum Producciones)

The modern obsession with realism has already penetrated the exorcism sub-genre. I have only one complaint about the documentary format, that the cameraman feels quite dead at times – he never gets very involved in the events, nor does he speak much, to the point that a couple of times I forgot that there is a character behind the camera. The horror moments work great, but there aren’t many of them. I didn’t mind much the oft-criticised ending. A very decent piece produced by Eli Roth, who shows he can put his fingers in more serious genre efforts. 7/10

Even though "The Last Exorcism" is definitely not a particularly inventive film, I still had the feeling after some time that this is a found footage movie that can be watched, and where it is shown that the possibilities are here - if only the creators didn't try so hard to show the audience what is expected. They precisely do this in the film and it's a shame, because its ending is absolutely uninteresting and cliché.
