Lillian Gish plays a sensitive young woman who moves out west to live with her cousin and his family. When she is forced from their household, she accepts the marriage proposal of a nearby rancher. Una película muda brillantemente realizada, no habría adivinado su edad por muchas de las escenas. Victor Sjöström consigue retratar la interferencia palpable de los elementos naturales en un entorno ya bastante inhóspito, lo que crea un ambiente sombrío y subraya la frustración del protagonista. Lillian Gish es, con razón, una leyenda del cine mudo cuyas expresiones faciales venden toda la obra al público al 100%.
