La vida de Jake Vig (Edward Burns) podría depender de lo que no sabe. Este avispado y elegante timador acaba de estafar miles de dólares al incauto Lionel Dolby con la ayuda de su equipo: Gordo (Paul Giamatti), Shills Miles (Brian Van Holt), Big Al y dos agentes corruptos del Departamento de Policía de Los Angeles, Lloyd Whitworth (Donal Logue) y Omar Manzano (Luis Guzmán). Sin embargo, cuando Lionel y Big Al aparecen muertos, sale a la luz que Lionel no era un primo cualquiera; Jake no tarda en averiguar que era contable del excéntrico jefe del hampa Winston King (Dustin Hoffman). No siendo una persona que se acobarde ante un desafío, Jake se ofrece a devolver el dinero a King montando el mayor golpe de su vida. La víctima será ni más ni menos que Morgan Gillette, un banquero que mantiene estrechos lazos con el crimen organizado. Un robo colectivo, traiciones, giros inesperados y otro protagonista de lo más listo. Y, por supuesto, todo es diferente de lo que parece a primera vista. Lo hemos visto cientos de veces. Quizá no tan dinámico y rápido, pero sin duda más claro y eficaz al final.

Surprisingly sterile imitation of all of Danny's partners and other heists with the only clear shock in the form of zero actors. They do not act, they just cheaply parade in front of the camera. This applies to both Rachel Weisz (for whom it doesn't bother at all for the first time and secondly, her role directly calls for it) and the most proclaimed duo of Hoffman-Garcia. Technically, there is not much to criticize, but the final editing specifically infuriated me, where it is shown how everything is and who is involved with whom, which is so desperately predictable that it erases all the potential charge of previous adventures in an instant.

Three and a half rounded up mostly for the sensational Dustin Hoffman. Had he been given a little more space, had Burns played better (or had someone else replaced him), and had there not been a slight ennui at times, those stars might have been proper.
