Sean Thornton (John Wayne) es un hombre arrepentido por su pasado como boxeador que regresa a Innisfree, su pueblo natal en Irlanda, tras haber vivido desde la niñez en los Estados Unidos. Nada más llegar reconocerá algunos rostros de su infancia, como el simpático y servicial Michaeleen Oge Flynn (Barry Fitzgerald), pero nadie le impactará más que la bella "solterona" Mary Kate Danaher (Maureen O'Hara), una pelirroja irlandesa de gran carácter cuyo hermano, "Red" Will Danaher (Victor McLaglen), pronto entrará en conflictos con Sean. The problem is, however, that it is an old movie and its visual aspect is not that great. The year 1952 is long gone and technicolor coloring may not appeal to everyone. It visually reminds me of the movie "The Wizard of Oz." But if you don't mind this quality - personally, I like it because it has its charm - you can enjoy the movie even more. It may not be something that will impress everyone, especially the younger audience, but maybe if they give the movie a chance, they will realize that comedy can be clever and entertaining, and it doesn't matter that it is more than 60 years old.
