Simin y Nader son un matrimonio que, junto a su hija Termeh, deciden abandonar Iran en busca de una vida mejor. Cuando todo está casi preparado, sin embargo, él se echa atrás por temor a abandonar a su padre, a quien le han diagnosticado Alzheimer. Ella, disgustada, decide pedir el divorcio y, al no serle concedido, se muda a vivir con sus padres. Las cosas se complicarán cuando Nader, quien se queda con la niña, decida contratar a una mujer para ayudarle con el cuidado de su padre. Un buen día, al llegar a casa, se encontrará al anciano atado a la mesa y, a partir de ahí, todo dará un vuelco en su vida y en la de la pequeña Termeh. (Golem Distribución)

Película de conversación magistralmente escrita y dirigida. Un dominó de sucesos impredecibles que, a partir de situaciones aparentemente banales de la vida cotidiana, desembocan en un drama que puede arruinar la vida de las familias. Emocionante, cargado, emocionalmente agotador. Nivel cinematográfico de los mejores dramas de Woody Allen o Mike Nichols, en un ambiente más exótico de Irán y su cultura. Es impresionante ver que las personas cuyas almas y mentes están encerradas por las leyes de una fe tan radical en realidad tienen los mismos problemas personales y familiares que cualquier otra persona en el mundo. Y ese final es un KO.

Cool. Cool, cool, cool. It’s not bad sometimes to look at how things work in countries with different mentalities. A fantastic family-court drama that, among other things, captivates with how not a single one of the protagonists is morally spotless. I’ve no idea whether the Iranian legal system works exactly like this (in fact, my Central European prejudices led me to believe that it’s much worse), but it doesn’t matter. An entertaining and thrilling film and a great candidate for the Oscar in the foreign language category.

A fantastic screenplay that unfolds from the marital conflict of longtime partners to reveal, in a fascinating way, a rich drama about guilt, punishment and lies. Precisely filmed, edited at a cutting pace, and acted economically with a sense of miniature drawing. A textbook family drama that has no problem with phrases and literalism. A film full of vivid characters, stories and pulsating questions on which several moral positions can be taken. A free film about simple things from a country that is not free, which Czech filmmakers have been trying to make in vain for years.

It’s sad when, with so many adults around, the only person with sense is a kid. It is lucky that it’s in such a good movie. This movie is attractive and “rewarding for the Western viewer" is not just thanks to the reaction of a diametrically different culture to the breakup of a relationship, but mainly thanks to how good, surprising, engrossing and emotion provoking at every moment (and in every respect) it is throughout. Simply despite all the unhappy story, this movie enthralls; with its story, twists, authenticity, actors, details, hints, everything that is not said... Simply everything.

I admit that I am not particularly enthusiastic about the wave of Iranian films that flooded world festivals a few years ago and made many cinephiles talk about Iranian cinema with boundless admiration, so I shrugged my shoulders at several acclaimed Iranian films. Therefore, I approached the Oscar-winning film A Separation with cautious skepticism. Fortunately, it was unnecessary. A Separation is an unpretentious psychological drama that is far from the shallow production of the American mainstream. It avoids straightforward activism but subtly and incredibly effectively analyzes the system through one disintegrating family. In a European context, this film could be likened to significant films of the Polish era of moral unrest. Poverty, religious radicalism, and the women's question, not on a mass scale but under the guise of institutions, conservative traditions, and general hypocrisy, constantly simmering frustration from the authoritarian religious regime and cultural isolation (the film's protagonist is planning to emigrate and is willing to sacrifice her marriage and even risk separation from her daughter because of it). A small film with a great impact that can hit a sensitive spot with surgical precision and evoke strong emotions. Overall impression: 95%.

Viděno během Challenge Tour 2015: 30 dní se světovou kinematografií. Film číslo 24 - Írán. Film, jenž atakoval moje vedoucí Rumunsko, ale zůstává zatím těsně druhý. Rozchod Nadera a Simin dokazuje, že i film, v němž nejsou akční scény, násilí a sex, dokáže strhnout neuvěřitelným způsobem a během 120 minut vůbec nenudí. Všichni tady v ČR v teple našich domovů víme úplné hovno, jak to v Íránu chodí, takže já se rozhodně zdržuji výkřiků do tmy typu, že je v Íránu takové a takové právo, takové a takové zvyky, a že ve filmu bylo něco přiklášenou, upraveno, cenzurováno. Jsem imunní vůči mediální masáži, že je Írán nebezpečný a ohrožující světový mír atd. Mně se to jako film moc líbilo, je velmi podnětné a obohacující sledovat očima Středoevropana konflikt dvou manželských párů, který neustále graduje a přemýšlet, jak by se takový konflikt odehrál v ČR, Německu, Francii. Nejsilnější stránka filmu alespoň pro mě tkví v tom, že jsem vnitřně nepovažoval ani jednu postavu za vyloženě kladnou ani za vyloženě zápornou, což je nanejvýš realistické, protože nikdo z nás není ani anděl ani ďábel. V jednu chvíli jsem soucítil a fandil jedné postavě, v jiné situaci se moje preference obrátily. Proto jsem taky rád, že na Berlinale rovným dílem ocenili všechny čtyři hlavní protagonisty. Pokud se nemýlím, je to asi druhý íránský film, jejž jsem v životě viděl a z obou filmů mám velmi dobrý pocit.

The Iranian movie simply deserves attention and it is evident that it has somewhat transformed since the 90s, to make it clear that there is also development here. When watching the film "A Separation" you will realize that the director, as well as the screenwriter in one person, has an interesting sense of humor as well as a dramatic storyline. Everything comes together in a sometimes absurd story, but one that is still very realistic.
