First act: atmospheric one-man show worthy of five stars, a perfect slow-burn. Second act: a forest chase with wooden actors in secondary roles; the enthusiasm has waned, but it’s still good – three stars. Third act: there is a twist that I saw coming about halfway in and that doesn’t make sense within the second half; or rather, the film can justify it for its own needs, but I refuse to accept it :-D. Rather than a smart horror thriller with a clever twist, Ritual is an artificial house of cards with a twist that is surprising only thanks to quite unlikely and pointless fabulation. It’s very tricky to rate it with stars as a whole – thumbs up of the beginning, thumbs down for the ending.
