The First Time is a modern look at the angst, anticipation and hopefulness of young love... Dave is a high school senior who spends most of his time pining away over a girl he can't have. Aubrey, a junior with artistic aspiration, has a hot boyfriend who doesn't quite understand her or seem to care. Dave and Aubrey meet one night at a party. I have to say that one thing immediately caught my attention in this film. The two main characters can communicate wonderfully in person when they are next to each other, when they look into each other's eyes, but it doesn't work for them over the phone. It's so nice to go back to the world of personal interaction, away from chat rooms, SMS, and Skype, into the normal world of people. Shouldn't it work like this normally? People should be able to talk to each other, they should be able to listen to each other and not just chat or write something that they don't really mean or that sounds different than what they mean. This realization is beautiful in the film "The First Time" because it helps the characters easily grow on you. And yes, it's still a teen comedy.
