El destripador de Nueva York

Esta vez, Lucio Fulci comete el error de no tratar la película como una de terror sino como una sangrienta historia de detectives. Imagínate una serie policíaca anodina y antigua ambientada en Manhattan, protagonizada por un actor anodino de mediana edad, quítale una sofisticada trama criminal y adereza el resultado con asesinatos que revuelven el estómago. Sin suspense ni atmósfera, sólo una versión visual barata del telefilme medio. Y ¿por qué el asesino hace ruidos como el Pato Donald? El descuartizador de Nueva York se te quedará grabado en la mente sólo con el asesinato inicial, con el detalle del corte preciso del pecho y el pezón de una mujer con una cuchilla de afeitar. I didn't believe it even when I read it before watching it, but it's true, the killer does sound like Donald Duck when he kills. Why didn’t I find that out while watching the film? It doesn’t matter, it's hilarious, and along with the "razor blade" scene, it's the only noticeable thing about the entire film. Otherwise, dull boredom, uninteresting actors, a weak script and five murders that are relatively moderate in terms of gore for Fulci. And just a small detail for the record: the famous razor blade scene mentioned by Pomo is not during the first murder, but during the fifth one at the end of the film. "The New York Ripper" is one of the better movies by Lucio Fulci, mainly because it is evident that even in the so-called trash, as his work is mostly referred to, he can still create an interesting plot that keeps you in suspense until the end. It is precisely elements such as quacking, sexuality that has nothing to do with intimacy but is open, and also violence that make his films so interesting. If you are not afraid of blood, Fulci is definitely an author who should not be overlooked. (24.01.2014)
