Una mujer rica, frívola y muy, muy caprichosa y un atractivo pescador italiano quedan varados en una isla desierta donde cuestiones como el dinero y la diferencia de clases no tienen ninguna importancia. En su lucha por la supervivencia, mientras intentan convivir en el paraíso, descubren que las diferencias abismales que existen entre ellos se van convirtiendo en una atracción feroz, apasionada y a veces hasta divertida. El final de Barridos por la marea sería poderoso si todo lo anterior funcionara al menos en la medida estándar de las películas de relaciones románticas. El carácter grecoitaliano de la comedia es refrescante, pero los personajes y su comportamiento... y sus representaciones por parte de los actores (y no actores) son un castigo. La dirección de Ritchie es tan floja y descuidada o incompetente hacia el género (se puede escoger, solo sabríamos la verdad si intentara otro película romántica, esperemos que no ocurra) que es imposible conectar con los personajes, creer en ellos, sentir algo por ellos, o al menos no pensar en ellos como bufones molestos. Meter la hermosa pieza orquestal «Spiegel am Spiegel», especialmente en el mencionado final, es un vano intento de dotar a la película de un alma romántica.

I had no idea that Guy Ritchie ever shot such idiocy. Madonna portrays a solid bitch here, who could not even flush a shat-on toilet by herself. On top of that, she is cast away at a desolate island in the middle of Greece, which is bad in and of itself, and she ends up there with a creep who wants her, but at the same time doesn’t want to rape her. For some time it looks disgusting and then it transforms into love. The movie was as bad as a rubber anchor.

After watching at least five unscheduled reruns, I still didn't get tired of Swept Away. The story of the money-spoiled Madonna, aka Amber, through the lens of her then-husband Guy Ritchie, is now also another closed chapter in the endless series about the life of the controversial icon. So what's next? A new marriage and another movie that will be hated on principle alone? Hopefully, Madonna will continue to have the energy to make more feature films, although such programmatic nonsensical hate would annoy anyone.
