No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't find any comedy in this movie. To me it was just another movie about organized crime. The problem is that the film doesn't have what it takes for a proper gangster movie. Plus, I never really liked Kathleen Turner, so she ruined the romance aspect for me. That leaves us with drama, which, just like the crime (gangster) genre, left a lot to be desired. Given the 130-minute running time, the film did drag a bit.

After the celebratory reviews, I expected something a little stronger, more intense. But I didn't get that. The film is good, it has great performances, but it only works as a weak satire, not as a great, biting comedy. Jack Nicholson is excellent as always, but he is not the only one who excels here.
