Esmail, un inmigrante iraní en Dinamarca, trabaja durante el día en una empresa de mudanzas para poder enviar dinero a familiares en su tierra natal, y por las noches intenta asegurar su estadía en el país europeo seduciendo a mujeres danesas con la esperanza de poder mantener una relación estable con alguna de ellas. Su plan está signado por la desesperación, sujeto al deseo ajeno y expuesto a que intervenga lo imprevisto. Por ejemplo, cuando se enamora de una joven nacida en Irán con ciudadanía danesa (algo que en teoría resolvería todos sus problemas, pero abre el juego a sus sentimientos) y es perseguido por un hombre que trae un hecho doloroso de su pasado. An unexpectedly quieter and more relaxed piece from Scandinavia, it still manages to hold the attention even if nothing significant happens. The protagonist is an Iranian living in Denmark looking for a woman in the bars to get him a residence permit, but when he falls in love, things get decisively complicated. Slightly depressing and captivating, especially for its Arabic traditional customs. Interesting, entertaining. 65%

The thing I appreciate about this film is the fact that although it tells a story about an Iranian refugee, it does so in quite a Western manner. It features Iranian traditions, but no religious fanaticism. Plus the lead actor is surprisingly likable, and I kind of wished for him to find his happiness. Unfortunately, he is trying to find it in Denmark, the country of merry people addicted to antidepressants. So everyone is really nice to him, but his life in Denmark is still going downhill over the course of the film. I also appreciate that the director, originally from Iran, was able to properly join the Danish cinematography and made his film appropriately gloomy. Too bad that the pace is too slow; a faster speed would‘ve done the film some good.
