El reconocido vulcanólogo Tao perdió a su esposa en medio de una erupción repentina. Veinte años después, el empresario Harris inaugura el primer parque temático de volcanes del mundo construido en una isla sobre uno activo. Tao advierte el peligro, pero su hija, trabaja en el resort en contra de su padre. Mientras los inversionistas visitan el parque antes de la apertura, el equipo de observación descubre el inquietante movimiento del magma y piden el cierre, pero Harris no hace caso. Cuando el volcán entra en erupción, provocando muerte y destrucción, Tao llegará para salvar a su hija y a la gente atrapada en la isla tratando de escapar de una apocalíptica erupción. Simon West has made his third best film after Con Air and The Expendables 2, this time for China. It has a rather novel idea where they build an amusement park on a former volcano. At first it feels like a prequel to Jurassic World, until the volcano starts raging again. I liked that all the female characters look like models, frankly the prettiest Asian women I've ever seen in my life. The visual effects are like from Hollywood, and the visuals and CGI are of a very high standard, which isn't exactly usual for China. The film is also decently paced, with fireballs of lava flying almost non-stop and the destruction is spectacular. It's not a film I'll ever return to, but there are plenty of disaster films and I'd definitely rank this one among the better ones. Story***, Action****, Humor>No, Violence>No, Entertainment****, Music***, Visuals****, Atmosphere***, Suspense***. 7/10.
