The Mad Doctor of Market Street

Atwill as a quack who practices putting people into suspended animation and then reviving them until one day he makes an error and kills a man. He escapes on a ship, but the vessel sinks near a tropical island. Atwill and the other survivors run into native chief Noble Johnson (who almost always played native chiefs, including the one in KING KONG, 1933), and soon the nutty doctor stuns and amazes the locals with his suspended animation trick. Using their respect, Atwill soon sets himself up as king of the island, but his reign is shortlived because a rescue plane arrives and takes everyone but him back to civilization.
