Con todos los honores (2019)

inglés The Last Full Measure has an extremely strong story and an important idea, but it doesn't seem to really sell either. The plot drags on, lacks dramatic arcs, and the final typically American cheerleader along with a lot of exaggerated patriotism, sentiment, and pathos definitely does not help the final impression. The attempt to portray human emotions and to evoke an emotional movement in the viewer was a bit of a miss. At least for me. However, I have to admit that looking at all the great actors made me realize how time is actually passing outrageously fast for the time that has been allotted to us here . That moved me much more than the film itself. (50%)

Otok ljubavi (2014)

inglés On Love Island, which is very far from the reality of everyday life, almost everyone is acting a bit crazy. It's a pretty wacky comedy, but I certainly can't say I was bored with it. The symposium "Wind Of Change" in a poignant performance by the great Ermin Bravo was also excellent. (60%)

The Comedian (2016)

inglés The entire time I couldn't help feeling that I was looking at a custom-made creation for overworked actors. In short, Robert De Niro, Harvey Keitel, and Danny DeVito needed a film to star in. Even the script is kind of tailored to that. Unfortunately, I didn't have much fun watching the film, as the rather silly vulgar banter didn't appeal to me at all. (55%)

Everest (2015)

inglés I have to say that I probably had excessive expectations. Visually, there is nothing to fault in Everest, but the script could have been much more polished. Probably everyone perceives that climbing peaks this high has long become a commercial commodity. It's commercial as hell and I feel the same way about this film, which is really unfortunate. (65%)

Ártico (2018)

inglés Arctic couldn't have been filmed anymore chillingly and, most importantly, more realistically. I admire the creators for the way they handled the subject matter. I watched the whole film with great fascination, and the suspense at times almost took my breath away. Mads Mikkelsen gave it all a touch of realness. In his tenacious fight for life, I trusted his every look, gesture, and movement. (85%)

Francek (2020)

inglés For her short documentary drama (dealing with the curious youthful age of the famous Czech painter František Kupka), Natálie Císařovská made extensive use of feature film techniques and succeeded in bringing the audience closer to the thought processes of the young man. They may have seemed a bit strange or primitive to some, but there was (and still is) a great depth to them. (70%)

Judy (2019)

inglés "The heart is not judged by how much you love, but by how they love you." - The Wizard of Oz +++ Since this is a biopic, I would welcome more information regarding the life of Judy Garland. The script deals primarily with the events surrounding the English concert tour a few months before her death. Since it was not a particularly interesting period, the plot drags quite a bit with a runtime of almost two hours. However, the film is lifted out of obscurity by Renée Zellweger's absolutely riveting acting and singing performance. Hats off to this lady, as she has become perfectly at home with the role of the fate-ravaged Hollywood legend. (65%)

Mug (2018)

inglés The brilliantly portrayed oppressive atmosphere of the redneck countryside features many interesting characters indulging in hypocrisy and xenophobia. It is this rather cracking combination that gives fodder to the tragicomic story of a young man trying to find his lost identity. This happens after a serious work injury caused him to undergo a face transplant. Among the film's strongest moments, in my opinion, are the scenes in which the mother confronts her disfigured son, either directly or through the exorcist. The rawness of the film is strongly underlined by the soundtrack, which is dominated by the driving songs of Metallica. (80%)

Looks That Kill (2020)

inglés The imaginative script was at the birth of a good teen movie that tells the story that even the biggest losers in life deserve to experience mutual love at least once. This tragic story with a quite original plot and existential overlap is moving to the point of tears, yet wonderfully lightened by its gentle humor. I enjoyed it a lot thanks to the well-chosen musical accompaniment. (85%)

Peleando en familia (2019)

inglés The reviews here frankly scare me. Was I supposed to be moved by the story and laugh at the wannabe funny situations during this movie? I was just very bored. If the wrestling scene is similarly poor and tasteless in real life, there is something very wrong with this world. I'm not biased, but it could have been done much better. For fans of the sport, I can recommend The Wrestler, a film that is in a completely different league. (35%)
