inglés Victor Hugo would turn in his grave if he could see what the screenwriters have done to his story. The famous novel is exceptional in its scope and sophistication, with each character playing a significant role and almost every dialogue and twist burst with emotions. The film, however, is desperately flat and cold with a severely truncated story compressed around only the three main characters, who are supposed to awaken the viewer's sympathy and participation. The only thing that keeps the film afloat, besides the music, are the excellent actors, who were all flawlessly cast. Whether the gorgeous Salma, who exactly fits the idea of a magical gypsy diva, the repulsive yet human Patinkin or the excellent Harris, who portrays the demonic Frollo truly admirably; otherwise, there is nothing worth mentioning. The ending and the plot may sound luscious, but it’s in fact a total destruction of a perfect and unique story. ()
