La edad de hielo está llegando a su fin y los animales están perplejos ante los cambios y la situación de su nuevo mundo. Mientras las temperaturas terrestres siguen subiendo, nuestro trío permanece unido - Manny, el peludo mamut; Sid, el perezoso; Diego, el tigre dientes de sable; y la desventurada ardilla de grandes dientes conocida como Scrat. Manny quizás ya esté preparado para fundar una familia, pero nadie ha visto otro mamut desde hace un montón de tiempo; de hecho, Manny cree que probablemente sea el último de su especie. Y así es, hasta que de forma milagrosa se encuentra con Ellie, el único mamut de sexo femenino que queda sobre la faz de la Tierra. Sólo hay un par de pegas: no se caen nada bien y ella por alguna extraña razón ¡piensa que es una zarigüeya! Además, Ellie no viene sola, sino que se presenta con sus dos "hermanas": Crash y Eddie, un par de atrevidas y arrogantes zarigüeyas. Manny, Sid y Diego se dan cuenta rápidamente de que el calentamiento del clima trae consigo un gran inconveniente: una gigantesca balsa glaciar que contiene miles de litros de agua está a punto de romperse, amenazando a todo el valle. La única oportunidad de sobrevivir se encuentra en el otro confín del valle. Así que nuestros tres héroes, junto con Ellie, Crash y Eddie, forman el más insólito grupo familiar de cualquier "edad" cuando se embarcan en una misión a través de un escenario siempre cambiante y cada vez más peligroso hacia su salvación. La primera película trataba casi de nada, pero era muy entretenida (le di 4*). La segunda trata de nada y es mínimamente entretenida (sólo la salva la ardilla). La animación es excelente (excepto la gran ola), el sonido del hielo al romperse es genial, pero el guión -desde las frases hasta los chistes, pasando por el uso del potencial de los personajes para la monada- pertenece a las aguas por debajo de la media de las películas de clase B estrenadas en DVD. Eso algo asombroso en el caso de un megaproyecto como Ice Age 2.

It wasn't love at first sight, but maybe that's why "Obleva" is now my favorite episode. Sid impresses with every dumb word he says, I find myself humming the Bugging Song suspiciously often, and Scrat is definitely the king of the supporting animated characters. As I got used to the much greater emphasis on family values during subsequent viewings, I can't help but smile while writing this comment.

They screwed a slightly different, inoffensive story that is entertaining and makes you laugh. The wisecracks and dialogs are as amusing as last time, plus Scrat is put to much greater use and more interestingly and at the end he is unbeatable. A respectable little brother to part one which definitely is nothing to be ashamed of.

Yup, the ice age is the ice age... But this time it is so frozen that it is nothing more than condensed boredom. The entire “prehistoric road movie" has turned into a moralizing vehicle for kids, full of wannabe humorous escapades leaping from one iceberg or boulder to the next. And not even the characters are at all intriguing. Even Scrat has problems trying to save the day and he manages only thanks to the final scene in heaven. Perfect for young kids, but pure torture for adults. Let’s hope that this time too that the DVD has a better bonus movie in store for us.

The lack of a denser and more spirited plot could be excused by the fact that this is a film for children. But when a little boy of about six, who was sitting behind me in the movie theater, asked his mother questions like "Why are they going there?" and "What are they doing there?", it was clear to me that the second installment of Ice Age was nothing more than a safe bet. It’s a safe bet that throws in one gag after another, interspersed with more "action-oriented" scenes, mammoth (literally) prodding, and very (and I mean very!) poor and awkward attempts at a few little quotes from other films (M:I-II, Saving Private Ryan). Ice Age: The Meltdown is a terrible film that hasn't changed a single pixel, let alone the plot, so the adage that you can only make a single tea out of one tea bag is more than spot on here.
