El FBI cuenta con un departamento que se dedica únicamente a investigar y perseguir a los delincuentes que actúan en Internet. La agente especial Jennifer Marsh (Diane Lane) creía haberlo visto todo... hasta ahora. Un depredador cibernético cuelga torturas y asesinatos en su página web. Rastro oculto es lo máximo que el muy buen artesano del género Gregory Hoblit pudo sacar de un guión tan soso y poco imaginativo. Un thriller policíaco convencional, mejorado por la crueldad del entretenimiento morboso de bajo presupuesto de los fans de la serie Saw. Diane Lane es genial, el suspense (sobre todo en el final) funciona. Con cero expectativas, la película no tiene nada que decepcionar.

Although it is a standard and narratively simple genre film, where the murders are mostly copied from the famous Saw franchise, I quite liked the idea of filming the entire thing with one camera and presenting it on the internet with a very interesting-looking website. After a long time, there’s something at least somewhat original within the genre. Of course, narratively it is a typical linear chase of a killer, but paradoxically, the biggest surprise is how clearly the story is laid out. There’s no wild twist, no switching to the other side of the barricade, or the horrifying realization that it is actually one way or another. Some people will appreciate it, others won't.

As generic and mediocre as it gets. This film has an interesting and promising premise, but the routine direction fails to extract anything worth remembering from it. The atmosphere is weak, the actors are dull and the overall picture is not half as gloomy and unpleasant as, say, the imaginative Saw. Another one of those many thrillers that will vanish from your head before the DVD has cooled down.

Soy defensor de las novelas de detectives clásicas, como Agatha Christie, así que las modernas historias de crímenes en las que el espectador ya descubre al asesino en la primera mitad no me entusiasman de ninguna manera. A pesar de eso, el señor director logró mantener el suspenso de manera habilidosa durante otra media hora, sin embargo, el final me obliga a compararlo con su película anterior, tuve exactamente la misma sensación de que la película se quedó sin aliento, como si el guión se congelara y no supiera qué hacer. Y en el caso de esta película, incluso se puede hablar de un aburrimiento final bastante grande.
