Son las vacaciones de verano y Lewis Thomas (Paul Walker), estudiante de primer año en la universidad, ha decidido embarcarse en un viaje por todo el país para encontrarse con la chica de sus sueños, Venna (Leelee Sobieski). Pero las románticas esperanzas de Lewis toman otros derroteros cuando se detiene a mitad de camino para rescatar a su hermano mayor Fuller (Steve Zahn), quien le incita a gastar una broma a un camionero solitario a través del sistema de radio. Versión adolescente de El diablo sobre ruedas, tanto de suspense como ilógica, con giros argumentales decentes y atajos inverosímiles. Pero un inteligente clímax la salva. Abrams ya estaba «homenajeando» a Spielberg una década antes de Super 8.

Great brotherly chemistry, seductive Leelee Sobieski, sufficiently scary moments with the line "Candy Cane," and perfect humorous inserts like fake scares during the hotel escape. Thanks to the unbelievably suffocating atmosphere and constant surprises, Jízda do pekel is a little unknown treasure for me.

A solid thriller with a good cast (I liked the "ordinary" Paul Walker). The atmosphere is surprisingly well built and there are very few deaf spots. Slightly above-par.

From my point of view, the American production Joy Ride is hardly anything you could call dizzyingly interesting. It has a subject matter that had been pretty well mined by 2001 whether with Duel or the similarly-themed and also very successful The Hitchhiker. Ride to Hell may have some drive, and Leelee Sobieski certainly is always impressive. However, even so, it is not very suspenseful.
