La humanidad convive con los "Retornados", gente de apariencia normal que ha sido infectada por un virus devastador. Sólo la inyección diaria de una Proteína evita que se transformen en zombis. Kate trabaja en una unidad de investigación intentando encontrar urgentemente una vacuna definitiva que impida que la epidemia se expanda. Además, oculta una poderosa razón: su pareja, Álex, es un "retornado". El caos se desata cuando el Gobierno anuncia la escasez de la Proteína y la paralización de las investigaciones, obligando a todos los infectados a ingresar en un centro militar de alta seguridad. Temiendo lo peor, Kate y Álex deciden no acatar las órdenes y huir. Su cuenta atrás por la supervivencia ha comenzado. (Filmax)

An excellent idea about how to have an original take on the zombie apocalypse. The creators don’t get all the juice out of it,though, which is a pity, but The Returned has its strong moments. It’s very well made and the climax even managed to arouse some emotions (though the ending maybe is trying a bit too much). A pleasant surprise from the director of the below-par The Possession of Emma Evans. 7/10

In my opinion, the Spanish-Canadian cooperation has paid off in this case, the only problem I see is the fact that the film is presented as a horror. It's not a horror, there are no horror moments or necessary atmosphere here. It is partly a sci-fi film, a film about people who have different views of the world. It's not groundbreaking in that sense, but it's definitely interesting.
