Cuando un destello de luz cubrió su casa, el joven Mark Fisher desapareció con él sin dejar rastro alguno. Tras más de dos años sin rastro del muchacho, todos parecen darle por muerto. Pese a todo, su amigo Seth, que fue el último en verle con vida sigue creyendo que éste sigue vivo en alguna parte de la Tierra. Un día comienzan a producirse una serie de brutales asesinatos sin respuesta en la región. Cuando todo el mundo achaca la situación a la aparición de un asesino en serie, los amigos de Mark piensan que éste ha regresado convertido en otra persona con sed de sangre. I root for every cheap indie flick, and I was hoping Almost Human would be better, even if this style of straightforward slasher flicks from the 1980s is not precisely my cup of tea. What I missed the most was perhaps some mystery around the transformed main character, some ambiguity. But that’s not the case here at all. The script is about nothing. Slightly funny. 5/10

"Almost Human" is not a film that should signify a complete revolution in cheaper production, but it is certainly not a film that underestimates the creator either. It is evident that there was a genuine effort to achieve the desired effect, to interpret a relatively classic story slightly differently, more oppressively, and to add quite interesting and gritty scenes to it. The result turned out very well in the end, and even though it may not succeed in cinemas, especially not in the Czech ones, it would be a shame to ignore this film.
