Un slasher muy controvertido. Desde el principio, no se puede negar una fuerte atmósfera de terror y una sugerente ambientación de una isla desierta con edificios abandonados y una furiosa tormenta, sin embargo, la trama se va llenando de todo tipo de clichés de terror y en el final no tiene ningún sentido. Aun así, El asesino de la isla ofrece muy buenos efectos gore, un sólido suspense y la mencionada atmósfera subrayada por el entorno. Se trata de un disparate cinematográfico con mucha imaginación, volveré a verlo con gusto.

With its setting and weather, The Slayer is an atmospheric slasher flick with the well-chosen Sarah Kendall doing a fine job in the lead role. You won’t exactly be scared by it, but the identity of the murderer is well concealed, the killings are satisfying with decent execution and the climax is properly intense. But it’s a shame that it isn’t sufficiently explained. That is, if we don’t take into account the inorganically tacked-on epilogue. We have to be satisfied with the ambiguity of the connection between the main character’s dreams and the events that take place in the film.

The American film The Slayer definitely has something to offer even after all these years. The atmosphere of the film is very unpleasant, dark, and mysterious. The characters may not suit everyone, but the unfolding of the story isn't bad at all and has great sequences. Especially the nightmares are done very well. The Slayer is exactly one of those films you hope to stumble upon at some point. Forgotten, but good.
