El gran guerrero Hércules (Reg Park) se entera de que su amante, Daianara (Leonora Ruffo), ha perdido la cordura. Según el oráculo de Medea (Gaia Germani), la única esperanza para Dianara es la Piedra del Olvido, que se encuentra en las profundidades del reino de Hades. Hércules, con dos compañeros, Teseo (Giorgio Ardisson) y Telémaco (Franco Giacobini), se embarca en una peligrosa misión para conseguir la piedra, inconsciente de que el guardián de Dianara, el rey Lico (Christopher Lee), es el responsable de su estado y planea quedarse a la chica como su esposa cuando se recupere. The great thing about Hercules in the Haunted World is that there are some nice special effects scenes or simply moments where you think that it's a good thing that Mario Bava has made his own take on the underworld - darkly, but he had a great imagination whilst doing it. For example, the chopping of the roots is visually interesting. The production design of the film is very good, it trumps the story, which isn't great, as well as the humor, which unnecessarily gets in the way of the plot.
