Right from the start, I thought, girl, don’t try your luck and don’t mess with the past, this might end bad. And she got hysterical andmessed with it. Adriana Ugarte is beautiful and holds the story together but if her character wasn’t so hysterical, no changing of the past had to happen at all. Changing the course of history may cause anything. After all, even a small child dimly aware of the theory of chaos already knows that. But whatever. During the Storm would not work without it, and especially the storm that swept through Spain over the course ofseveral days would then make no sense at all. But the result is more than solid. Netflix has a hunch for Spanish creators.

After The Body and The Invisible Guest, the popular Oriol Paulo serves up the sci-fi thriller During the Storm and hits the mark again. Very likeable characters, original time travel, a tense atmosphere and a shocking climax where the director pulls off and excellent twist and everything fits together nicely. Only the Spaniards can make such a masterfully directed mindfuck, proving once again that they are rightfully on the throne and will not be dethroned. It is better not to find out anything about the plot, because the less you know, the better. This is a thriller as intricate as a spiderweb.

During the Storm plays with the motif of the butterfly effect, mixing elements of crime drama and science fiction about playing with time, and manages to hold the viewer's attention for almost the entire running time. The final third was perhaps a little wilder script-wise, yet I rate the film as a whole very positively, with the detective plot and the gradual uncovering of the truth, trapped in the turbulent snares of time, playing a large part. I could complain about the main character Vera, who was a bit too (typically Spanish) hysterical at times – they could have toned down the talking, as it detracted a bit from the believability.

Finally, a pleasant surprise. An excellent thriller-like drama full of storms, clashes of two time planes, and the pursuit of justice. I couldn't tear my eyes off the screen for two hours straight. Excellent acting performances, a well-crafted screenplay, and fantastic directing made me enjoy this film to the fullest. I couldn't possibly give a lower rating.
