Kate (Emilia Clarke) deambula por Londres amargada por un cúmulo malas decisiones, continuamente acompañada por el tintineo de los cascabeles de sus zapatos, otra irritante consecuencia de trabajar como elfo en una de esas tiendas navideñas que abre todo el año. Cuando Tom (Henry Golding) aparece en su vida, Kate comienza a ser capaz de ver más allá de sus numerosas barreras, aunque resulta demasiado idílico para ser verdad. A medida que Londres se transforma para celebrar las fechas más maravillosas del año, todo parece ponerse en contra de la pareja. Es una película muy extraña, definitivamente no la compararía con ninguna otra película romántica británica como Love Actually, Bridget Jones's Diary, y otras, ni siquiera la incluiría en este género. Y cómo Emma Thompson la ha creado y escrito tan maravillosamente, me ha conmovido. Además, las canciones de George Michael, el domingo de plata y la sorpresa de mi chica, de conseguirnos las últimas dos entradas para el cine lleno. Así que no puedo calificarla de otra manera que con la máxima puntuación.

Probablemente la comedia (rebelde, molesta y sin agresividad) más divertida hasta ahora de Paul Feig, pero aun así, difícilmente estará dentro del promedio. Un romance inspirado en la canción navideña impulsado por la historia ficticia llena de clichés acerca de una heroína poco comprensiva, egoísta e irresponsable que, gracias al amor y a los consejos del hombre adecuado, se convierte en una mejor persona, se reconcilia con su familia y finalmente comienza a amarse a sí misma, actúa de principio a fin como cegada por motivos y escenas tomadas de otras películas que han sido significativamente mejores. Se pueden apreciar los actores diligentes y la atmósfera del luminoso Londres, pero en general, la película no solo supera la falta de humor sin pretensiones (toda la comedia sobre el personaje principal es que tal vez caiga en la basura o que un pájaro le deje restos encima, muy poca comedia en la película en general), pero también una increíblemente aburrida y cursi (y desafortunadamente también muy predecible) final.

Paul Feig's latest film skirts the arc of his previous works, and that's not a bad thing at all. Emma Thompson has written an incredibly sweet and touching screenplay that might well have been lost in the grey averages if it weren't for a rather surprising plot twist at the end that certainly didn't leave me cold. The cast was excellent, from the lovely Emilia Clarke, to the likeable Henry Golding, to the goofy Emma Thompson and the graceful Michelle Yeoh. Add to that a soundtrack by George Michael and you are treated to an incredibly easygoing film that, while at times it attacks the sensibilities and tries to be overly tolerant and multicultural, still carried me along for a hundred minutes in the cinema on this positive and warm wave of good-naturedness and love for my fellow man.

A sweet Christmas romance with the adorable Emilia Clarke and the likeable Henry Golding with well working chemistry between them. Too bad Paul Feig didn't lean more on the humour, but it's still fun to watch and the Christmas spirit oozes joy. What pulls the film to a slightly above-par level is the unexpected final twist, which is both very original and welcome in the rom-com genre. 6/10.

You can’t count on every new English Christmas comedy that comes to the cinema to be the new Love Actually. Last Christmas is a totally different type of movie but it is able to set the Christmas mood just as well. However it is apparent that this movie was inspired by a song. I would be interested in what George Michael would say about it. Moreover it was Emilia Clarke who did this movie good because she is able to bring colors even to a black and white, static pointless short movie. Nevertheless, the fairy tale mood is overdone here and that is a shame. Last Christmas comes across as a quite nice movie but it won’t became a TV Christmas classic.
