Pleasure

No es precisamente un tema revelador sobre el éxito en el mundo del espectáculo a costa de perder la inocencia y los amigos, pero colocado en el escenario más apropiado y técnicamente rodado a la perfección. Un documental que engaña con el cuerpo de un largometraje mejor que sus estrellas femeninas fingen placer. Debió de ser una delicia verla en una sala abarrotada del festival, penes gigantes y ambiente porno dominan la imagen desde el principio. La película es una interesante guía de cómo es el negocio del porno en Hollywood (agentes, fiestas, platós de rodaje y comunicación entre cineastas), y también presenta a personajes reales del negocio. Es lo más abierto posible, no teme mostrar plenamente incluso los momentos más incómodos por los que puede pasar una actriz porno en ciernes, siempre que ella no se resista a nada. Por el contrario, al escalarlos, desarrolla hábilmente la transformación de la protagonista, que, a pesar de su inexperiencia inicial, consigue llegar «cada vez más alto». La sueca Sofia Kappel encarna muy bien al ángel rubio con apetitos lujuriosos, y la morena femme-fatale Evelyn Claire es su alter ego ideal, a la que admira y con la que consigue la mejor escena culminante de la película. No quiero sacar de nuevo Mulholland Drive, pero David Lynch es una gran influencia para generaciones de cineastas. Aquí, además, con la sombra de temática porno de Carretera perdida. Si la técnicamente brillante Pleasure no fuera tan suecamente fría y poseyera la poesía envolvente y la complejidad de sentimientos de las películas de Lynch antes mencionadas, provocaría en el espectador un hambre mental incluso antes que el físico. A realistic, bold and authentic portrait of the American porn industry. A young 19-year-old Swedish girl travels alone to LA to fulfill her dream of becoming a porn star, but soon discovers that the road to the top will not be easy. From overcoming her own boundaries to battling with agents and producers and rivalries between other divas. It's a strange film, definitely one of a kind, but I was impressed. The film is very gritty in certain scenes, breaking cinematic taboos and it certainly doesn't shy away from nudity. All full frontal! I found it interesting that Mark Spiegler plays himself (he is an American talent in the lookout for up-and-coming porn actresses called the Spiegler Girls). The main character is likeable albeit naive, she acts great and is willing to do anything for fame, so some of the decisions are quite unexpected. The rawest scene from a shooting was probably the violent one, which is not very easy to watch. The film could be classified in the sexploitation subgenre and works reliably as a peek behind the curtain into the porn industry. 7/10. (14.03.2022)

This perfectly crafted festival product shields itself with phrases like “a female perspective on a male industry”, “sparks debate”, “provocatively authentic”, “contains disturbing scenes”, etc. At the same time, however, it merely serves up a morality play that says nothing new on the topic of the illusory nature of the career of a porn star. It thus engagingly but predictably maps the career trajectory of the main female protagonist, whose path to shady supposed stardom leads through ever increasing self-degradation and loss of self-worth. Paradoxically, perhaps the most interesting question that the film indirectly raises may be why porn not only uses formulas and stereotypes in its narratives, but also invokes them as an industry and meat-grinder of human bodies and identities. --- It is necessary to praise the experiential benefit of seeing Pleasure at a festival, when stepping out of the Hotel Thermal after the film and finding oneself among stylish girls in stilettos and conceited dandies around the Becherbar added a 4DX dimension to the screening. Si tenemos en cuenta el escenario elegido para Pleasure, que ofrece, para algunos, prácticas quizá poco ortodoxas y personajes peculiares, se trata en realidad de una película de plantilla sobre un hombre de codos afilados y su viaje a la cima imaginaria, a la que quiere llegar a cualquier precio. Un tema que hemos visto muchas veces. Todo llega sin mayores sorpresas y el final no termina realmente con ningún remate. Como mirada bajo el capó de la industria del porno es interesante, pero sigue faltando algo para que la historia de la película sea satisfactoria. [KVIFF 2021] (22.08.2021)

La película nos atrae con éxito hacia los atractivos bastidores de la industria del porno, el componente visual hardcore 18+ y el retrato de este entorno desde la perspectiva de una aspirante a actriz, lo que suena prometedor y novedoso e incluso podría invitar a discusiones no triviales. En el fondo, sin embargo, se trata de una moraleja tópica y manida con una historia esquemática de un esquemático viaje a la cima en pos de la falsa ilusión del sueño americano, en el que la protagonista va sacrificando amigos, su propia dignidad y parte de su personalidad para convertirse en una de aquellas a las que ella misma despreciaba. Una película extremadamente física, pero que en realidad no dice mucho sobre la historia de fondo de la industria del porno (a diferencia de los documentales como Rocco), porque, independientemente de la autenticidad de las localizaciones y prácticas representadas y de la actuación de personalidades reales del porno, se debilita a sí misma con una historia artificialmente prototípica. This film offered a rather subtle look into the behind-the-scenes world of shooting XXX pictures, and it left me with mixed feelings. Throughout, I had the impression (or I was hoping) that the creators were trying to portray the psychological development of a budding pornstar. However, by the end, it seemed like they either abandoned this pursuit or simply couldn't quite pull it off. I felt there could have been more involvement from the editor, as the long scenes from various parties where not much happened unnecessarily extended the running time. I must admit, I was expecting a more enjoyable experience, especially considering it was set in my favorite industry. / Lesson learned: Don't overestimate your abilities. (21.05.2022)
