Pro upíry mám od dětství slabost, takže jsem neváhal a přečetl si první díl úspěšné série. V českých kinech film prosvištěl rychlostí zvuku, takže jsem tohle promeškání dohnal až na služební cestě ve Vídni. V sále sedělo pět diváků, což ve mně vzbudilo neblahé tušení, že se tahle filmová adaptace nesetkala s diváckým úspěchem a může následovat osud např. Zlatého kompasu. Přitom by to byla velká škoda, neboť se domnívám, že se film opravdu povedl, nenudil jsem se. Jestli se budou "chytat" i diváci, kteří knihu nečetli, úplně nedokážu posoudit. Zoey Deutch je pro roli Rose jako stvořená, Francouzi určitě v komentářích použili slůvka "craquante".

From the promising storyline supported by a promising book series, only a surprisingly roughly chopped omelet remains, though the impressions remain largely positive. With the impossibility of keeping up with the escalating mythology, with three twists and two new characters in every other five-minute segment, everything lies on the beautiful Zoey Deutch, because the wooden Danila Kozlovskij, the heavily overacting Olga Kurylenko, and the unremarkable princess don't help her much. However, the main heroine, as well as the less successful and insufficiently soaked in sarcasm scenes, handles it with ease, which, combined with cool action and a strong frequency of lines, is absolutely sufficient. However, if I were to seek logic in the sequence of the plot, I would have to burst far more.

It is clear from the beginning that this film will not be a miracle. It is stylized like "Twilight," which is not very good, but that's how it goes. But what I liked more was at least some effort to turn it into a bit of a thriller or detective story. Towards the end, it unnecessarily becomes tangled, and actually, it is clear from the beginning who the killer is, but I still felt that there was at least a hint of effort here.
