La película cuenta la historia del noble Arn Magnusson, quien fue criado por monjes en cumplimiento de una promesa hecha en su infancia por su familia. Incluso criado en el monasterio, desarrolla sus habilidades de lucha, convirtiéndose en un guerrero experto. Al salir del monasterio, se enamora de Cecília, que acaba quedando embarazada. Cecilia y Arn son juzgados y condenados a veinte años de penitencia, ella en el convento y él en las Cruzadas. Después de grandes hazañas, Arn termina prisionero en una batalla, pero es liberado y regresa a Suecia, donde se reencuentra con su amor y su hijo, pero todavía hay tiempo para luchar por última vez. The most expensive Swedish film ever made. That’s quite appealing, isn’t it? That’s also why I was quite looking forward to watching this film and happy that it finally happened. I liked the medieval atmosphere. The story had its charm and both the war atmosphere and the relationship tangles blended beautifully. It all fit together nicely, and even though some events might have been changed to fit the film better, I’m glad that I could be, at least in film, part of Swedish history and learn a little more about it. At least I learned who Arn was.
