Tina es una agente de aduanas con un olfato tan extraordinario que es capaz de oler la culpa de cualquiera que pretende esconder algo. Un día su olfato es puesto a prueba con Vore, un hombre con aspecto sospechoso que pasa ante ella. Tina sabe que Vore esconde algo que ella no puede identificar. Y lo que es peor: se siente extrañamente atraída hacia él, lo que crea un lazo muy especial entre ellos. Tina descubre la auténtica identidad de Vore pero también la verdad sobre su propia existencia. Su vida ha sido una gran mentira y ahora tiene que elegir entre continuar viviendo como antes o aceptar las terroríficas revelaciones de Vore. (Karma Films)

Un esquema detectivesco, sesgado por un festival de lo bizarro, por la variedad de ideas que brotan. A pesar de los aparentes elementos de fantasía, nos mantenemos firmemente en la realidad, tanto más aterradora e inquietante por ello. El creador lo llama «realismo nórdico». Una experiencia psicológica, física, quizás incluso repulsiva para algunos, pero siempre socialmente reflexiva y comprensible desde todos los ángulos. I caught up with this Scandinavian oddity and to my surprise it's decent and recommendable. The story focuses on Tina, who looks weird and is quite creepy, her life is not worth much and she works as a customs officer at an airport. But she has specially developed olfactory abilities and she can smell fear, guilt and other emotions from people, and thanks to that she catches some pedophiles. Her life changes, when she meets Vore, who has a similarly repulsive appearance, and they begin a sort of bizarre romance (the sex scene with them is very repulsive indeed). The film mixes multiple genres, it's interwoven with Norse mythology, it manages to shock (it gets quite intense at the end), and the whole thing is so strange, interesting and novel that I really enjoyed it. Scandinavian weirdness with all the trimmings. 7/10.

Con esta película, es imprescindible no saber demasiado de antemano. Conocer de antemano el trasfondo de los personajes estropearía definitivamente la experiencia de la sorpresa. Border es un espectáculo realmente extraño y sin alegría. Sus escenas crudamente repulsivas y su ritmo lento tienen más probabilidades de repeler a los espectadores que de conquistarlos. Está rodada con sensibilidad y la actuación es increíble (me inclino ante la pareja protagonista), pero la trama necesita un poco más de ritmo. Hacia el final, la película se alarga un poco, lo que no me permitió apreciarla más. Pero definitivamente fue una experiencia muy inusual. [KVIFF 2018]

Un festival honesto y extraño, que combina el oscuro crimen escandinavo y el romance bestial con la mitología de fantasía que, a pesar de muchos momentos de WTF, está claramente enraizado en nuestra realidad y se basa en motivos de múltiples capas que reflejan los eventos mundiales actuales, especialmente en el tema de género e identidad sexual y acceso a las minorías de la sociedad. Una mezcla de géneros dirigida con mano firme y en algún momento conviene un ritmo más rápido, sin embargo, la originalidad, el coraje y la otredad son definitivamente apreciados. Y también sin grandiosas la caracterización y las actuaciones de ambos personajes principales.

Border is one of the most bizarre pieces I've seen recently. The weirdest genre mash-up you could ever hope for. A Scandinavian fairy tale about two creatures in love at the intersection of the human and supernatural worlds, with a detective plot and a pervasive critique of human society. The makeup artists did a really good and frighteningly convincing job creating one of the most unattractive couples in film history. Also interesting was the concept of troll mythology, which made for more than one WTF moment. It's definitely a noteworthy film, and I can understand any rating for it.

My first impressions of the film were very mixed. Interesting story, interesting characters, very beautiful style, but something was missing. After revealing important insights to everything that happens to the two main characters, my experience of the film was strong. The fact that we don't know these facts from the beginning of the film is tremendously cool, because the film allows you to wake up your thoughts and experience Tina's story through her eyes - in not knowing. I give tremendous praise to the film's conclusion - or rather, the metaphorical last third of the film - for its engaging take on an ordinary story.
