Cinco años después del fin de la Guerra Civil estadounidense, el capitán Jefferson Kyle Kidd (Tom Hanks), veterano no de una, sino de tres guerras, va de ciudad en ciudad narrando noti-cias, hablando de presidentes y reinas, de luchas gloriosas, devastadoras catástrofes y apasio-nantes aventuras que tienen lugar en cualquier rincón del mundo. Un día, en las llanuras de Texas, el capitán conoce a Johanna (Helena Zengel), una niña de diez años que fue secuestrada seis años atrás por la tribu Kiowa, y que durante este tiempo fue educada como uno de ellos. Johanna, en contra de su voluntad, debe irse a vivir a casa de sus tíos, un lugar hostil y desconocido para ella. El capitán Kidd acepta entregar a la niña a sus tutores legales. En el viaje, ambos recorrerán cientos de kilómetros a través de una inhóspita naturaleza, y deberán enfrentarse a enormes dificultades, humanas y naturales, en búsqueda de un lugar al que puedan llamar “hogar”. Filmová výzva, žánry - western. Poslední dobou sleduji trend dvouhodinových stopáží, u nichž příběh sehrává vedlejší roli a hlavní roli obstarávají dlouhé záběry, kamera, nulová či minimální zápletka. Zpočátku jsem tento dojem nabýval i u Zpráv ze světa, pak ale přišla klasická westernová scéna, která mě vytrhla z letargie a přiměla film pozorněji sledovat. Pak dojde zase ke zpomalení, ale v zásadě slušný western s velmi dobrým výkonem Heleny Zengel.

Una tranquila road-movie del oeste sin una fuerte trama dramática, pero con un corazón humanista. Simplemente Tom Hanks. Su objetivo es volver a mostrar los rincones y personajes un poco diferentes del periodo del oeste americano, sus leyes y sus penas. Más realista que la de Costner Mensajero del futuro :-) Solo que no tiene mucho de Paul Greengrass. ¿La dirigió realmente? El regreso de James N. Howard al género es agradable, aunque debido al enfoque minimalista de la película no llegamos a disfrutarla plenamente hasta los créditos finales.

Paul went out of his comfort zone into the prairie, where life is a circle, and you have to remember that in order to move on. A simple but beautifully constructed story, told with fluid camera strokes, that you've heard a hundred times before, but that the Hanks-Zengel duo will want to hear again and again. The film is a quiet commentary on America's brokenness and the need for kindness and acceptance of difference. It may not have any dizzying depth, but it's certainly Greengrass' most personal, intimate and moving work, and its simple goodness made me believe at times that the world isn't messed up. Hats off and I love it.

A few years after the Civil War, Captain Kidd is traveling through Texas reading the news to the people. One day he comes across a little girl who was once abducted by Indians, and he decides to return her to her relatives. But it's not going to be an easy journey. This intimate western relies on great cinematography, music and an excellent Tom Hanks in the lead role, and isn't afraid of a slower pace, but unfortunately it tells a story that is woefully transparent and not very revelatory. And ultimately a little boring.

More was probably expected from a Paul Greengrass/Tom Hanks collaboration. For me, it's a an unnecessary and uninteresting film that didn't bring anything new. It's shot well, acted well (Helena Zengel, after System Crasher, proves once again that she is on an excellent path). The stumbling block for me is the story, did Greengrass really have to choose such an uninteresting subject? Watching a traveling journalist in the Wild West is probably the most boring option available. It lacks action, emotion, drive, and tension – everything I like basically. Weak three stars for Hanks. Story***, Action*, Humor>No, Violence>No, Entertainment**, Music***, Visuals***, Atmosphere***, Tension**. 5/10.
